Expanded Mass Communication Laboratory inaugurated
The expanded Mass Communication Laboratory was inaugurated last September 26 in simple rites attended by President Guillermo T. Maglaya, Sr. and top University officials.

Dr. Virginia O. del Rosario, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said the event was a highlight of the observance this year of the 20th anniversary of the Mass Communication program of the college. WU-P opened the course in 1987, the first school in Nueva Ecija to do so.

The Mass Communication Laboratory, a University showcase, now occupies two interconnected rooms at the third floor of Manacop Building.

One room houses the radio production studio where the University radio station, DWUP-FM, broadcasts on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The facility is linked by cable to the main radio station studio at the fifth floor of the Computer Education Building at the other side of the campus.

Adjacent to the radio production studio is the new television production studio which also functions as lecture room for Mass Communication classes. The studio boasts of a German-made professional lighting system similar to that found at the Nueva Ecija Convention Center.

Rev. Dr. Jose Flores, University chaplain, officiated in the dedication and blessing rites.

Among the guests were Mrs. Corazon Maglaya, wife of the University president; Dr. Anselmo D. Lupdag, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dean Apolinar M. Alfonso of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy; Prof. Leodegario M. David, executive assistant to the president; Pastora Rosale, university registrar; Zenaida del Rosario, public relations head; and retired CAS faculty member Fe M. Delo.  ###

Radio Wesleyan airs from Mass Com Lab

WU-P Board of Trustees Member Framer Cristy P. Mellia is interviewed by
Radio Wesleyan announcers Darwin Policarpio and Melisa  Agustin, both Mass Com alumni.

The University radio station, DWUP-FM, has “moved” to a more spacious and accessible site – the radio production area of the College of Arts and Sciences Mass Communication Laboratory.
“Move” in quotation mark, since the main base of Radio Wesleyan’s operations remains at the fifth floor of the Computer Studies Building.

Since last year, the main studio has been linked by cable to the radio booth inside the Mass Communication Laboratory at the third floor of Manacop Building across the campus, where broadcasting activities were occasionally held.

With the recent expansion of the Mass Com Lab, it was decided to use its radio production area for daily radio broadcasts but only during office hours and on weekdays, and with the proviso that no visitors will be allowed inside the studio when classes are going on in the adjacent facility.

The move was taken after getting the approval of Pres. Maglaya whose office has administrative supervision of Radio Wesleyan, and the concurrence of Dean Virginia O. del Rosario of the College of Arts and Sciences, who has jurisdiction over the  laboratory.

Radio Wesleyan now airs from the extension studio from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday – to the relief of station visitors, program guests and the station staff who used to huff and puff their way up five floors to reach the station. ###
